How do I start a neighborhood watch program?

What should I do if I see a suspicious person and/or vehicle?
It is always best to err on the side of caution. Call us when in doubt. Don't assume someone else is going to call or that calling is a waste of our time.
Are you required to give your name when you make a call for a deputy?
Our dispatchers will always ask you for your name, address, phone number, and the nature of your call. You are not required to give your name. If you do not wish to talk directly to a deputy you are not required to do so. We will check the problem out either way.
Will you check my house when I am out of town?
We have a house/area check program. Call dispatch at (229) 759-6012 before you leave and request your house be placed on the list.
How do I apply for a position at the Sheriff's Office?
Bring your driver's license, a copy of your DD214 (if you were in the military), and a copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate to the Sheriff's Office. Contact the Administration division for an application.
What can I do to stop trespassers from coming onto my property?
You may post NO TRESSPASS signs on your property. If you continue to have a problem, contact the Sheriff's Office at (229) 759-6012. Request for a deputy to file a report and contact the trespasser if possible. After attempts have been made to warn the trespasser, if you continue to have problems, contact the Magistrate Court for further action. You can contact them at (229) 759-6016.
If someone writes me a bad check, what can I do?
You must contact the Magistrate Court and begin a civil process. They can be reached at (229) 759-6016.
At what age is a person considered an adult under Georgia law?
A person can be arrested and treated as an adult at the age of 17. Persons remain under the control of parents or legal guardians until their 18th birthday.
Is it okay to drive a golf cart on a public roadway?
A golf cart may be driven on a public roadway when the speed limit of the road is 35 mph or less. The driver must possess a valid driver's license, and a "slow moving vehicle" sign must be on the rear of the golf cart.
Is it okay to drive a four wheeler (ATV) on a public highway?
No. Four wheelers may not be driven on public highways.
Where can I go to discharge my firearm?
Unless you have access to private land away from residential areas, there are very few options. Be careful not to trespass on another person's property. The Department of Natural Resources may be able to help you with information on public shooting ranges in the area. They can be contacted at (229) 430-4252.
How do I obtain a firearm carrier's permit?

Is there a leash law in Lee County?
Yes. Contact the Lee County Animal Control office at (229) 759-6028 if you have any questions or need to report a violation. On the weekends or after hours contact the Sheriff's Office at (229) 759-6012.
What can I do if a former boyfriend or girlfriend will not leave me alone?
You should contact the Sheriff's Office at (229) 759-6012 and request a deputy to contact you. Attempts will be made by the officer to assist you in warning the source of harassment. If you continue to still have problems you may obtain a copy of the report made by the officer and contact the Magistrate Court at (229) 759-6016 for further action.
